At its first board meeting of 2026, the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) approved seven major data centre and data hosting projects. Together, these represent over USD 3.1 billion (THB 96.88 billion) in new investment. As a result, Thailand is accelerating its push to become a regional digital hub.
Notably, the largest share comes from True Internet Data Center. It secured approval for three projects worth THB 45.3 billion (USD 1.4 billion). These will be built in Chonburi and Samut Prakan. Moreover, they will deliver a combined IT load of 223 MW.
In addition, GSA Data Center 05—a joint venture between Gulf, Singtel, and AIS—will invest THB 37.2 billion (USD 1.2 billion). Specifically, the company plans two facilities in Rayong and Samut Prakan. Together, they will offer 120 MW of capacity.
Furthermore, Stellar DC—a partnership between Thailand’s Stecon and Singapore’s SC Zeus Data Centres—will develop a THB 8.1 billion (USD 0.3 billion) facility in Bangkok. This project will support 25 MW of IT load. Meanwhile, Singapore-based Freyr Technology will invest THB 6.3 billion (USD 0.2 billion) in data hosting operations across Rayong and Samut Prakan.
Importantly, these 2026 approvals follow a record-breaking year. In fact, the BOI received 36 data centre applications in 2025 alone. Altogether, they were valued at more than THB 728 billion. Most are located in key zones like Bangkok, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Pathum Thani, Rayong, and Samut Prakan.
Consequently, this surge reflects growing demand for cloud services, AI infrastructure, and digital transformation across Southeast Asia. To meet this need, Thailand is fast-tracking approvals and offering incentives. Therefore, it aims to attract global tech firms seeking alternatives to traditional hubs like Singapore.
In summary, the early 2026 wave of Thailand data centre investments highlights the country’s strategic shift toward digital infrastructure. With strong private backing and government support, Thailand is positioning itself as a competitive player in Asia’s data economy.
